10 Things that Make me Happy in Winter
Do you love winter? The snow, the cold, the Holidays?
Or do you dread it? Loathe it? Move from it?
Several months ago I was challenged to write a post about 10 Things that make me Happy. I was so excited to write it until I started!
I immediately thought of about 3 things and then drew a blank!!!
Can you believe that? A blank! I was supposed to write about 10 items and I only had 3!
Well, needless to say after a few more minutes I easily had my 10, plus so many more. That’s when I decided to do seasonal editions!
My first seasonal edition was Fall: If you happened to miss it, check it out – 10 Things that Make me Happy in Fall edition!!!!
And here is my second: Winter!
Now, it may not be my favorite season but honestly, when I was starting to write things down I came up with my winter ones faster than any of the others.
The reason: Christmas 🙂
Fall may be my favorite season but Christmas is by far my favorite Holiday!
Below, you’ll see some of the reasons why… but in no particular order 🙂
Snowmen
Who doesn’t love making snowmen?
Now, I’ll be honest, I haven’t actually made one in years but I look forward to introducing this to my little guy and seeing if he’ll enjoy it. We’ve been reading Frosty the Snowman for a while now so I’m hoping 🙂
Snow Angels
And who doesn’t love making snow angels? Now this I know my little guy will be able to do…. so excited 🙂
Christmas
Now, If you’ve read any of my other posts you may know that my all time favorite season is Fall. But my favorite holiday is undoubtedly Christmas! This year I was wanting to start putting up Christmas decorations even before Halloween lol. I refrained in case you were wondering but I love all the lights, the music, the festivities…. and of course the meaning of Christmas itself!
Christmas tree
Do you have a real Christmas tree?
We don’t 🙁 And we haven’t for years. I will admit, our fake one is easy to put up but there’s nothing like a real Evergreen Christmas tree in the house. The smell, the look (sigh).
Cookie Swaps
Have you ever heard of or done a cookie swap? They are the best. No better way to sample lots of different types of cookies/desserts than with a cookie swap.
Can you name 10 things that make you Happy in the winter?
Food
Need I say more? 🙂
Ice skating
This is something I loved to do so much when I was growing up. Unfortunately I had knee surgery several years back and haven’t been brave enough to try it again. But maybe soon….
Sledding
An iconic winter activity, right? When was the last time you went?
For me, it has been several years but I think my little guy is getting old enough we might be able to try some small hills. So excited 🙂
New Years
Ah, the changing of the years. A chance to let go of the old and bring in the new! It always feels great, doesn’t it? Even if there is some sadness that may come along with it too, for whatever reason.
Fireplace
I don’t know about you but, to me, there’s just something wonderful about sitting in front of a fire when it’s cold outside. We used to use our wood fireplace until we realized that it just created too much soot/dust in the house so I’ve resorted to finding fireplace apps or channels on my computer/tvs to at least pretend I’m next to a fireplace 🙂
What makes you happy in Winter? Please share with us below in the comments so we can all enjoy! Thanks 🙂
And now it’s your turn to fill out your list, and you might just be pleasantly surprised at actually how many things you’ll come up with. Write them down, keep them by your bedside, in your purse, your wallet. Add to the list every time you thing of something or you experience something that makes you happy. If you’d like, feel free to print out this free worksheet to get you started. No email required 🙂

I needed this! Being Canadian, it’s easy to get bogged down waiting for warmer days of summer. It reminded me to focus on the great things that living in a colder climate has to offer.
That’s great. I know it’s not easy, and I’m with you on waiting for warmer weather again but enjoying the cold while we have it is fun too. Thanks.
Aww! Thanks for sharing!I’m saving this to do with the family! Such a good thing to do in this harsh weather to remember it isn’t as bad as we sometimes feel!
Sound great!! Yea, it’s not always easy huh?
I’ll admit, Winter is my least favorite season. Not a fan of cold weather. But there are some amazing things about Winter too, like how beautiful the first snow of the season is, and watching my kids playing in the snow. Christmas is great too, especially seeing the excitement on my kids’ faces on Christmas morning.
I agree totally! You’re right, that first snow is so beautiful to me too. Thanks.
I could probably think of 10 things pretty quickly if I tried, but my all-time favorite is that cozy feeling of curling up inside when it’s cold and snowing out, listening to Christmas music and/or enjoying hot chocolate with my family 🙂
Ah, love these 🙂 Yup, curling up is definitely a favorite! Thanks for sharing.
Oh my gosh! Yes to all of these!!! I love snuggling with my babies too especially during this time of the year when I have an excuse to do it all the time!
Belle | One Awesome Momma
Lol, I love that… and yes:)
It snowed in San Antonio. But it wasn’t that deep and it was warm enough to go out and play in it. And now I see why some people say they enjoy the snow. I grew up in Colorado and never liked it until now 🙂
Lol, that’s how it goes sometimes 🙂 I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
I love your list. There are so many reasons to be happy this time of year. I think another I’d add is giving and charity (because I enjoy giving to friends and giving to the needy- both being kind of self serving as they make me feel good but also I think good for others so it’s a win win). Lovely post- I love Christmas trees and snow angels too!
Ah, that’s a great suggestion! And I would agree with you, giving feels good. Thanks so much 🙂
I love all of these things during the winter too! I never understand friends that dread winter…. I love it so much!
Yea 🙂 That’s awesome! I’m not sure I’d say I love it but these are just a few of the things that make it more enjoyable. Thanks.
Great post! I am a little jealous because I live in Georgia and we don’t get very much snow so no snow angels and snowmen. 🙁 I do however still love winter for many of the same reasons you do.
That’s so cool! But yea, sometimes we have to find ways around not having much… or any snow.
We actually just got a huge amount of snow last night and I am loving it. Something was missing leading up to the holidays and that is exactly what it was. I don’t mind winter as long as it isn’t -30 which we can get…
Don’t forget snuggling up with a nice cup of hot chocolate!! Love doing that with my girls this time of year! We even have special Christmas mugs. 🙂
Oh I love that… and agree. I’ve been going a little overboard on hot chocolate already lol 🙂 Thanks!
I love that winter is so cozy – bug sweaters, bulky blankets and cuddling by the fireplace. I adore how magical it feels when it’s snowing (especially if you’re walking it). Slidding, snow shoeing and skating under the night sky… winter is beautiful and there is tons to be happy about! Thanks for sharing 😊
Oh my, what great additions to the list! Thanks so much for sharing with us. I especially like the idea of skating under the night sky. I’ll have to put that on my to-do list 🙂
