This post, 10 Things that make me Happy in the Fall, was originally published in 2017 and has been completely updated in August 2022.
A few years ago I was challenged to write a post about 10 Things that make me Happy.
I was so excited to write it until I started!
I immediately thought of about 3 things and then drew a blank!!!
Can you believe that? A blank!
I was supposed to write about 10 items and I only had 3!
Well, needless to say after a few more minutes I easily had my 10, plus so many more I decided to do seasonal editions!
And here’s my first one – Fall!!!
By far my favorite season. And you’ll see my reasons why below 🙂 Enjoy!

Football
What can I say?
I love football, and no, it’s not because of the tight uniforms!!!
Being exposed to football at a young age, and going to college games with my family when I was little probably has something to do with it.
Have you ever seen one of those little kids at the bottom of the bleachers cheering along with the cheerleaders, I never did do it but boy I wanted to 🙂
I love the sportsmanship, the skill….the food at games 🙂
Marching Band
I know, this may sound a little nerdy but I was in marching band in high school and loved it!
It was by far the best part of my high school career.
I think part of it was the performing aspect of it, memorizing the songs, and learning the formations, but it was also the comradery that I had with everyone else in the band that made it so special.
Corn Maze
What can I say? I love a good corn maze and it makes me so happy in the fall.
Now, I’ll be honest, I’m not really interested in just mindlessly walking around a maze but if it has some game or process as part of it I’m all in 🙂
There are some that have quizzes or local information as you reach certain points, some have maps, and some none, but my favorite by far is Tom’s Maze in Ohio.
Leaves
The leaves!
If you’ve ever seen the leaves changing colors you know what I’m talking about.
The colors – red, orange, and yellow. I think they are so beautiful!!!
The smell of the leavings when they are being raked.
And when was the last time you jumped in the leaves?
Me, it’s been too long but if I’m lucky this fall 🙂
When was the last time you jumped in a pile of fall leaves?
Crisp Air
Does the crisp air make you happy in the fall?
The air is getting cooler, there’s a fresh smell in the mornings.
It always makes me think of everything on this list 🙂
You get to start bundling up in oversized sweaters (see below :)) and evenings by the fireplace are right around the corner.
Oversized Sweaters
Yes 🙂 over-sized sweaters! You get to start wearing those large, comfy, cozy sweaters.
You know that crisp air we just talked about?
With these, you’ll be able to wrap yourself up in warmth and just be so comfortable.
Curl up with a good book; wrap yourself up while watching a great football game; go outside and play with your family!
So go, find your large, comfy, cozy sweaters 🙂
Hiking
I know, this is something that can be done in other seasons too but why not hike when there are beautiful leaves to look at and the air is cooler which means you’ll be cooler.
The below picture was taken several years ago in Colorado and I enjoyed the hike so much!
Carmel Apples
Talk about yum! 🙂
Not only do you get a little satisfaction for your sweet tooth but you will be getting the health benefits of apples too.
Apple Picking
When was the last time you went apple picking?
It’s definitely a fun thing to do!
Take some time this fall and grab your friends, your family, and your neighbors and go apple picking!
And be prepared to bring home too many apples to eat 🙂
Speaking of, did you know it’s extremely easy to make your own apple sauce? No? Well, it is.
Simply cut and core your apples.
It doesn’t need to be perfect but cubes will work great.
Then add the cubed apples to a pot with some water that will cover the apples.
Cook on medium/high heat until a fork goes into the apples easily.
Then use a masher or blender – and you’ve got your apple sauce!!! Super easy.
Pumpkin Carving
When was the last time you carved a pumpkin?
Before my son was born it had been years.
But why? It’s not just an activity for kids or ‘families’.
Actually, the last time I carved a pumpkin was with a friend.
She and I got some pumpkins, carved them, and then baked the seeds. yum 🙂

Fall is my fave! I love all these things- apples and pumpkins and crunchy leaves! The only things I’d add are cozy boots, long cardigans, and apple pie ❤️❤️❤️
Oh, great adds 🙂 I agree. Thanks!!!!
Love all of these! Crisp air, leaves, over sized sweaters, pumpkin picking, hay rides, haunted houses, Halloween and thanksgiving are some of my favorites!
That’s a great list too. Thanks for sharing!! 🙂
Yes, I love them all. Especially football season and fall activities, and large sweaters
Nice, thanks for sharing! 😀
My favourite season, thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks.
Hiking, Crisp air, leaves are things i also appreciate. I don’t know the others which i haven’t experienced/had so far.
Ah, I hope you get to soon!!! 🙂
All of these things make me happy, too! Unfortunately, I don’t get to experience a lot of them in Southern California. I also miss having a marching band within earshot!
Oh no 🙁 that’s not good. Hope you can still enjoy some of them soon!
I’m with you on everything but the corn mazes- I find those to be vaguely terrifying! Happy fall to you!
Thanks. Lol 🙂 Yea, actually I agree if I think about it to much, that’s why I stick to daytime mazes. Happy fall to you too!!!
Im so with you on the leaves and the crisp air!! And even the oversized sweaters! Autumn is a beautiful time of the year
I do agree 🙂
The last two are my favorite… apple picking and pumpking carving! In fact, we already went pumpkin picking last weekend.
Awesome, so jealous, haven’t had a chance yet… but soon!
I’m so excited for apple picking, the beautiful colours, crisp air… and pumpkins! Yay! It’s such a wonderful season. And I love your list 😊.
Thanks so much 😀 😀
I absolutely love your list and I must say we have so many things in common! Great job!
😀 Yea, that’s awesome!!! Thanks.
I love this! Though Fall is not my favorite season (summer is), it is my favorite time of the year as far as activities, weather, and scenery. Football is probably number one on my list (LOL).
Lol, love it! Thanks.
