How To Stop Being Lazy
My grandfather lived to be 101!
You want to know what I think helped contribute to his long life?
Being active. Every Day!
I know, that information sucks for some of us.
I personally love, any moment I can get, to be lazy.
With a toddler that’s far and few between. Which might contribute to that feeling :).
Now, with that being said, I am currently going through a p90x3 cycle which helps me stay motivated, but….
And I know what you’re saying, I don’t want to live into my 100s. I get it, but if you want to enjoy the time you do have, then we have to get up and move that body!
If you want to enjoy life, then you have to get up and move your body!
Not only will it thank you but so will your brain!
You know there’s plenty of research that shows just 10-15 minutes here and there does wonders.
And I know you’ve all heard the suggestions. You don’t even need to get a gym membership, just park a little farther, take the stairs, walk one more lap of the mall before you leave.
These aren’t bad ideas, although some of them are just not always feasible when you have little ones and/or if you’re in a hurry.
Here are some of my tips and I’m not talking about going crazy here (remember I’m not a doctor):
- Do a few squats while your brushing your teeth.
- Are the kids playing on the floor? Then how about getting down there with them and do some push-ups or leg lifts.
- Letting the little ones get some fresh air in the backyard or the park? Why not run around with them? Join in on their game of tag or chase. And who cares if you look or feel silly! Your kids will love you for it and you’ll be moving!
See what I’m suggesting? While you’re doing something you normally do every day, add in some movement.
- Try lunges when you’re brushing your hair.
- Run in place while making a meal.
- Grab two cans of anything you have in your cupboards and do arm curls while watching tv.
I know it’s not always easy to motivate yourself to get moving but I know that when I do I feel so, so much better.
So, here’s a challenge for you:
At some point, every day, move.
-
-
- Take a walk around (inside or outside) your house.
- Walk around the block/neighborhood.
- Do a few squats, lunges, push-ups or crunches.
-
Remember, it doesn’t take much to stop being lazy!
“Take action! An inch of movement will bring you closer to your goals
than a mile of intention.”

Just as an example, I just completed a 5-day Say it, Sweat it, Get it Challenge by Erin Stutland and it was amazing.
One of the concepts behind it? You can find lots of motivation in just five minutes a day. The workouts are only five minutes, and yes, you can find five minutes a day to do these!
Looking for some more motivation? How about something on the flip side, like how to calm down and relax? Check out these posts:
My dad walks about 10 miles a day! He’s almost 80 but is very healthy and sharp. He’s learning to use a new digital camera. He bakes, he cans, he blogs! I think he’s as healthy as he is because he’s always been active.
Oh my gosh, that’s so wonderful to hear, and I
agree!! Keep being active 🙂
Great reminder – keep moving!!
Thanks!! Exactly 🙂
