How to Enjoy your Visit to Mud Island

Mud Island is located in Memphis, TN, and is a wonderful place to take your family.

Recently I was looking through my photo album and found pictures of my trip to Mud Island with my parents. I realized it’s been around 10 years since we visited!

So, knowing it’s been awhile since I’ve visited, I did some research and after looking through their website it looks like it’s about the same.

When we visited we parked across the water, which meant we had the opportunity to either walk across or take the monorail across to get to the museum and Riverwalk.

We took the monorail and it was pretty cool 🙂

Now, I’ll be quite honest, I don’t remember whether or not we went through the museum although I do have some pictures of inside a riverboat. I figure these pictures of what rooms must have been like and some beautiful antique furniture must have been part of the museum.

What I do completely remember is the Riverwalk and that is the part of the park I want to share with you.

The Riverwalk

The Riverwalk is  a 30” to  1 mile scale replica of the Mississippi River. It begins where the Mississippi River joins with the Ohio River in Illinois and follows it all the way to the Gulf of Mexico.

It not only is a replica of the River but also shows some cities, bridges and roadways that surround the river.

And did I tell you, that you can walk in it?

Yup, that’s right!

You can take your shoes off, your kids shoes off and have fun walking the river.

And if/when you make it all the way to the end you’ll end up in a replica of the Gulf of Mexico.

The ‘Gulf’ is a full acre area where you can rent a paddle boat and enjoy the Memphis skyline.

It truly is a cool family vacation spot!

Pricing

There is a cost to get into the museum, riverwalk, monorail, and paddle boats. Check Mud Island’s website for current prices, hours, and directions.

It is very reasonably priced and definitely worth it!!!
