This post, 8 Of The Best Tips For Cruising With A Toddler Series, was originally published in 2018 and has been completely updated.
Welcome!!!
This is the last day of our series where we will dive into 8 of the best tips for cruising with a toddler!
So, you want to take a cruise with your family….. that includes a toddler.
But you’re not sure that’s a fantastic idea, let alone a good one.
And you’d really rather not go on a ‘kids’ cruise.
Well, let me share something with you.
We just got back from a 10-day, yup you heard correctly 10 days!, cruise with my 4-days-shy-of-his-3rd-birthday-year-old. It was his first, my second, and without any hoop-la, it went great and is totally worth it!!!
Oh, and just to let you know, this was not a cruise meant for kids or really families for that matter. It was for the more mature, older customer.
And so that’s why I’m going to share with you over the next 7 days, my tips and tricks for how we ‘survived’ our 10-day non-kid/family cruise and hopefully, it will encourage you too!
And just in case you’d like to catch up before finishing up the series:
Day 1 – Being flexible.
Day 2 – Outdoor gear.
Day 3 – Play.
Day 4 – Loveys and food/snacks.
Day 5 – Bedtime routines.
Day 6 – Explore.

And last but nowhere least:
Eighth Tip #8- Make friends with the staff
This last tip may seem odd and out of place but stay with me 🙂
Remember how I mentioned that this was a non-kid cruise? Well, maybe because of that, but the staff just loved my little guy.
And maybe that was why. There were only a handful of little ones on the ship and they always seemed to make everyone smile!
We made sure to learn the names of the staff we saw the most, our stewards (those who took care of our room) and the dining staff. And they were eager to learn his name too.
And it didn’t take too long for our stewards to learn that our meal times were a bit different than the rest of the passengers.
Instead of going to dinner and then staying out to enjoy a show, shop, or visiting one of the bars we would always head back to the room to start the bedtime routine.
After just a few nights, by the time we got back to our room, the beds would be turned down, the bunk bed would be out, our towel animal would be displayed and the chocolates along with our agenda for the next day laid out.
They did a fantastic job 🙂
As for the dining staff, I cannot say enough.
Make friends with the dining staff on your cruise. You won’t regret it!
They really befriended my little guy. So much so they would make sure his highchair was at a table waiting for us at meals!
Not only that but one started making origami for him.
And the others always, always made sure to make it a point, when they saw him, to wave and say ‘hi’.
He loved it and it seemed to just brighten their day too, so much!!!
If he knew better, he would have felt like a celebrity 🙂
And there you go!

No, it won’t be the same as if you didn’t have a toddler with you but it will definitely be exciting!!!!
And what a great experience for your little one too!
I am in the process of trying to convince my husband that taking our toddler on a cruise is the best way for us to travel. We have never been on one so he is reluctant. I will forward this on to him
