Are you looking for some of the best book series for young kids?
I have tried my best to read to my son even before he was born.
Now that he is starting to read on his own it’s been a matter of trying to find books he enjoys and that will keep him entertained but more importantly wanting to read.
I’m going to share some book series we started as a toddler and then I’ll move into ones we’ve been reading lately, including one he’s currently loving!
Here are some of the best book series for young and beginner readers that we’ve found for my son.

Great Book Series for Young Kids
Construction Site
The Construction Site book series is a fun one to read to you little one(s).
It is also one we started when my son was a toddler, but still read now that he’s almost seven (7).
It explains a little about different construction trucks and what they do.
But it also puts you in the story so it’s really engaging.
The words rhyme so it’s easy to read and the pictures are colorful and detailed.
Really is one of my son’s favorites.
There are about 11 to chose from, including ones for really little ones about colors and shapes.
Also ones for the older kids about different seasons/holidays, etc.
Biscuit
The perfect book for little ones – Biscuit!
The stories are short but entertaining.
And the pictures are engaging too….who doesn’t love puppies! 🙂
Plus they can be used one the little ones start reading to practice also!
There are so many to choose you can’t go wrong with this series.

Bob Books
Now these aren’t really a series in the sense that they start a story and end the story.
Rather, they can be bought in sets to help your beginning reader excel!
And they’re perfect for them.
The books/sets start slow with short sentences, using rhyming words, and even helpful tips for the adults to know what to focus on and/or be aware of like whether the books are focusing on short vowel sounds, long vowel sounds, certain words, etc.
The pictures don’t always match the words so the kids don’t always get that extra clue 🙂 which is a good skill for them to practice – actually reading rather than guess correctly from the pictures.
RBI- Ripley’s Bureau of Investigation
Based off of Ripley’s Believe It or Not.
It’s definitely for slightly older kids but my son really enjoyed me reading them to him.
And at the time that was almost just as important, him wanting me to read to him and finding something that interested him, as him reading himself!
The stories have that fantasy feel but also the kids going on fun adventures and learning along the way helps make it exciting.
Flat Stanley
Talk about a fun one – Flat Stanley 🙂
This is another one I read to my son but I think now that he’s further along in his reading I think he’d be able to do a lot himself.
The stories revolve around a little boy, Stanley, who as all these adventures like turning flat and then everything that happens so him because of it.
We’ve read the first three (3) and in each one something different happened but just in case your little one doesn’t really like that something happens he always changes back by the end 🙂
Magic Treehouse
The Magic Treehouse book series is very popular and my son loves me reading them to him.
I haven’t tried him reading them himself but soon I think.
It’s about two siblings, a boy and a girl who find a magical treehouse that transports them to other places, eras and even fantasy times, to help right some wrong.
He loves the fantasy and adventures the kids get to take.
Dragon Masters
Now, Dragon Masters is what we’re reading right now and I can’t tell you how happy I am with it!
First let me say, I never saw this series mentioned whenever I was desperately looking for a book series my son my enjoy.
Thankfully my son’s 1st grade teacher mentioned it and it’s been perfect!!!
It’s, of course, about dragons.
Specifically a boy who’s 8 years old, who learns to become a dragon master for the king of the region.
There are pictures on nearly every page and just enough ‘bigger’ words that he still gets practice with his reading skills.
Now, instead of fighting to have to read, he wants to!!!
Did I mention I love it? 🙂
And on the note, I’ll let you go so you can research which series you’ll get next!
