When my son was 4, these were some of his favorite toys!

First let me say, my little guy, does not typically like to sit down to do much of anything lol.

Getting him to sit down and work on his writing or even just to color can be a struggle.

Instead, he’d rather be running around, playing tag, monsters, really just chasing each other around!

With that being said, we have found a few items that will catch his attention.

That could mean 10 minutes, it could be 30 minutes.

(In our world that’s huge :))

So, without further ado.

Best Gifts For 4-Year-Old Boys

Legos

Hands-down, this is definitely one of the best gifts for 4-year-old boys out there!

It is an oldie but such a goodie!

I tried to introduce legos to my son about a year ago and he wasn’t overly excited about them.

But, for his fourth birthday, he received three or four lego building kits and that was all it took!

We have since bought a few more kits plus visited Legoland in Pheonix, AZ.

He loves them and has successfully learned how to create his own designs.

He gets so focused and determined it’s beautiful.

His favorites: Batman/Mr. Freeze kit, Spiderman kit, 3 in 1 Drone kit.

Bunchems

Bunchems are another great building toy but it’s so different.

It’s made up of different-sized and colored spheres made of velcro-like materials.

The idea?

You bunch them together 🙂

By bunching them together you’ll create different animals.

Use the instructions that come with it to get yourself started then the sky’s the limit. 🙂

Jumbo gears

Here’s another great activity that involves building.

This jumbo gears set also comes with fairly easy-to-follow instructions.

But then once you get the hang of it it’s great to be able to build your own creations.

Give a 4-year-old boy something to build and see his imagination explode (along with what he built!).

Bonus Gift

Brik Buster

Does your little man love to build a tower of blocks just to knock them down?

Well, the Brik Buster is the perfect gift for them!

Not only do they get the fun of building a tower of their liking but then they get the fulfillment of knocking it down 🙂

Actually, the goal is sort of like Jenga.

Knock out as much of the ‘structure’ as they can without it falling down.

But….. we all know that may take some time!

Glow in the dark tracks with car

What kid doesn’t love playing with cars?

And in case you already know you’ll need even more track, I’ve got you covered 🙂

They are so much fun.

Allow the tracks to get some sun then turn off the lights or take them to a room that can get dark enough to see the glow in the dark and enjoy.

And with these tracks, you can set them up however you’d like.

A small circle, a large circle, make it oval-shaped, make indentations throughout the track.

The track is so flexible it’s even fun to move it while the cars are running and see if you can finish before the car gets to the spot you’re working on!

Wooden Train Set

Since we’re talking about tracks, how about a great wooden train set?

There are so many options.

You can make a small round track, perfect for younger friends or siblings.

Or make a bigger more intricate track with bridges and railroad stops for even more fun.

Remote-controlled front loader

My son loves playing with his remote-controlled front loader.

The controller allows you to manipulate the loader arm, being able to move it up and down.

But it also allows you to run the front loader forward and backward!

Let me tell you, let them use it to move around toys to ‘clean’ up or why not take it outside and ‘really’ be able to use it?

Puzzles

He was recently working on this giraffe puzzle at pre-school and he really enjoyed it.

The neat part about it?

The pieces stay together so you could even play with it after you’ve made it!

The cool part about it?

On one side they will get to practice their ABCs.

On the flip side, they get to work on their counting!!!

Magnetic shape pieces

Talk about another activity he just loves and can sit with and play and play.

These magnetic pieces can be made into almost anything.

Your imagination is the only thing holding you back!

With pieces in squares and different triangle shapes, it’s easy to make houses, tall towers, unique shaped buildings, you name it.

Workbench

He loves working with the hammer and screwdrivers that come with the workbench.

And having a space that’s similar to papa’s definitely helps.

You’ll see him ‘fixing’ furniture all over the house! It’s awesome 🙂

Leapfrog

This is another activity that is slowly becoming a favorite.

He gets very into going through the different books and collecting his stickers.

Working through the different activities and skills in his leapfrog is helping reinforce what he’s learning in preschool.

The best part is each book has so many different interactive parts to it that it helps keep him involved.

This set includes ABCs, numbers, and shapes/colors.

We’re heading off on a road trip soon and I’m planning on taking ours with us.

Crossing fingers 🙂
