I know we have!

Now that my son is getting older, you can tell he needs more space to run and jump, explore and use up some of all the endless supply of energy kids have!

We’ve been researching some different options of backyard ideas for kids and wanted to share them with you.

Playground

We see so many people around us have these awesome little playgrounds in their yard that we wanted to really see what they looked like and how much they cost.

They aren’t cheap but when you see what all they include and how well they’re made, it’s definitely reasonable.

So this set is about $1,600 but it includes the ladder, monkey bars, slide, fort, climbing wall, picnic table, lookout, and swings!

What four-year-old wouldn’t want to play on this!!!! (O.k., admit it, you’d want to too, right :))

Update:

We actually finally decided on this play set.

It is smaller but it is considerably cheaper at only $450.

It’s also much more appropriate for our needs lol!

We ended up setting it up all by ourselves and it really wasn’t too bad.

It took longer than the four (4) hours it suggested it’d take but we took out time and spaced it out throughout a few days.

Ninja Warrior

Whether you’re a fan or not of the show American Ninja Warrior, everyone loves to push themselves and explore obstacle courses.

So why not set one up in your own backyard with these kits.

This is a pretty simple, basic set but it’s perfect because it can be used indoors too and doesn’t require much setup.

Slackline

Have you ever heard of a slackline?

Maybe you actually have just didn’t know the name.

It’s a long, say 40 ft. of polyester webbing made into a strap.

The idea is that you ‘connect’ each end to a tree or other stable and sturdy anchor point, tighten the line and then attempt to walk across it.

Slacklining has become very popular over the years.

One of the reasons is because it’s so easy to set up but it’s also very portable.

The awesome thing about this kit is it comes with training lines and arm trainers (basically helpers until you start getting the hang of it!)

If you’ve ever done a ropes course and enjoyed it this is a way to bring a bit of that to your own backyard.

Trampoline

This one’s such an easy one right?

A trampoline is such a great outdoor, well for that matter indoor too, activity that it had to be mentioned!

Now, I personally have always wanted to do one placed into the ground.

I feel like it would be even safer, plus easier to get to 🙂

Play like a four-year-old!

Rock Climbing Wall

So, in case the first playground wasn’t an option, a cheaper backyard idea for kids would be a stand-alone rock climbing wall.

You’ll need some wood to assemble into a stable wall and some rock climbing holds.

Put everything together and you’ll have your own custom-built rock climbing wall.

Whether you need it for a little one or older kids you can make it for both!

Treehouse/Fort

What little boy or girl doesn’t love a treehouse/fort?

It becomes their own little place, right?

A place they can call their own, their hideout, their place!

Splash Pad

I don’t know about you, and maybe it’s simply because I’m a parent now to a four-year-old, but going to a splash pad is huge.

Why not use this backyard idea for kids in your own back yard.

Now, they have little ones for little ones like this:

Or, if you’re really into it, and have some money to burn, then why not install a ‘real’ one into your backyard?

Check out this post on how to build your own splash pad. Looks cool, right?!
